Student answer (Band 6.5)

These days,it is often seen that pictures along with words are being used by the media. Some believe that reading with the help of pictures is more effective and a few have concerns regarding excessive use of the photos content in the newspaper or in online news.I consider using pictures is the best way to share content with readers.

On the one hand, due to busy lifestyles and schedules it is very hard for everyone to read thoroughly and listen to detailed news. Information with pictures is easier to understand and can be retained for a long time. This encourages the popularity of television media and newspapers with photos. For example, watching news online can help people understand the situation better because pictures can reveal the true condition of the problems. Therefore, news stories with visuals are becoming more common day by day.

On the other hand,a handful of people assert that too much attention to pictures content can damage the level of understanding and reading habits. They claim people often prefer to watch content or pictures instead of details. However,i think the main aim of media is to provide information to the public and majority prefer to depend on audio-video content than reading or listening alone. In addition, other sources such as radio with only audio listening is also accessible on the internet and everyone is free to choose according to their own preferences.

In conclusion, news support by pictures is one of the best ways to get detailed information. While some give more priority to news without photos as they feel less comfortable with visuals .Infact, learning or gaining something by observation with eyes is more suitable for brain.I strongly favour details use of content with picture to disseminate awareness about everything.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that pictures are more effective than words. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of busy lifestyles and the cognitive benefits of visual learning. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument regarding the 'damage' to reading habits is introduced but not fully explored or countered with sufficient depth. While the position is consistent, the supporting examples could be more specific to move beyond general statements. Overall, the response is well-focused on the topic and maintains a clear stance throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation and spacing (e.g., missing spaces after commas and periods). Referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'disseminate awareness' and 'visuals.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'details use of content' and 'pictures content.' The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Some repetition of basic words like 'pictures' and 'news' is evident, suggesting a need for more varied synonyms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in punctuation, particularly missing spaces after punctuation marks (e.g., 'days,it', 'newspaper or in online news.I'). There are also minor grammatical slips, such as 'news support by pictures' instead of 'news supported by pictures' and 'details use' instead of 'detailed use.' Despite these errors, the grammatical control is sufficient to ensure that communication is not impeded, and the writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences.
