Student answer (Band 6.5)
In most parts of the globe, pictures are widely used to explain news stories on digital and in paper media. Some individuals consider the role of images are more vital than the words. I believe that, while words are important part of any news, the visuals plays a significant role to illustrate the real meaning of any story.
To begin with, picture allows people to understand more quickly and easily. To explain it, people can easily understand the purpose of news without reading the long description. For instance, the major natural disasters such as flood, fire, and gas leakage, just one image can the explain the impact of any particular event. Moreover, people can easily connect emotionally with the news images, In other words, people more likely to remember the news when they memories the picture rather than the writing part. To cite an example, photographs of people effective any wars or natural disasters gain immediate attention and help to spread the new at world level. Therefore, visuals can make the story more memorable and powerful.
However, words are still essential because images can not provide all the details such as consequences of event, date or time, and truth behind the incident. More deeply, images can create the confusion without the real story behind it. Hence, both concepts are crucial to explain the background story of any news.
All in all, although words are still vital part of any news story, images can be more effective for people to connect with the incident or it is better way to collect information quickly and effectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that balances the effectiveness of images with the necessity of words. The ideas are relevant, such as the emotional impact of photographs versus the factual detail provided by text. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed; for instance, the point about images creating confusion could have been expanded with a more specific example. Overall, the position is consistent throughout the essay, and the main ideas are supported with relevant examples, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level of development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'In other words', and 'All in all' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the flow is generally smooth, there are minor issues with punctuation and referencing, such as the comma splice in '...news images, In other words...' and the slightly awkward phrasing in the final paragraph. These do not impede communication, but they prevent the essay from reaching the highest bands for cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'natural disasters' and 'immediate attention'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'people effective any wars' (should be 'affected by') and 'memories the picture' (should be 'remember the picture'). These errors do not cause difficulty for the reader, but they indicate a range that is sufficient rather than wide or sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the visuals plays', 'picture allows') and article usage ('at world level'). There are also minor errors in preposition use and sentence construction. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors limits the score. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic agreement and article consistency.
