Student answer (Band 6.0)

News stories in newspapers and on television are mostly displayed with pictures. Few people say that these photos are more significant than words. In my opinion pictures are really useful and I will elaborate these condition in my upcoming paragraphs.

First and foremost, if a reporter circulate news with visuals or photos these news stories are more attractive and useful for details. After looking at the pictures in newspaper or on TV consumers gets more clear view on the news and gets a sense of genuineness of the news. For example, the pictures of hospitals on TV at the time of pandemics alert the nation on time and gives them surety about the seriousness of any disease.

Moreover, by including pictures on news gives real time updates and emotions to the viewers which are important to them because some local activities are happen on world level and if they get a good results by including pictures gives nation a self confidence and happiness. For instance, if a sports team wins a championship on world cup level it gives each and every citizen of nation a proud moment.

In my personal opinion including photos in news is very significant . For example, my best friend was doing hard work on his physical and mental strength from last 2 years and as a result he got his dream job as a Police inspector in Toronto police and before he called me I saw his picture on TV news story of new employee of Toronto police.

In conclusion, adding pictures in news and on Television are more effective than only words because of their legit proof and real time updates values .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion that pictures are more effective than words. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of visuals in conveying urgency during a pandemic or celebrating national pride. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The personal anecdote about a friend becoming a police officer is a bit tangential and does not strongly support the argument regarding the effectiveness of news imagery compared to text. To improve, ensure that every example directly reinforces the core argument about the communicative power of visuals versus written language.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'I will elaborate these condition'. The referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations like 'real time updates' and 'genuineness of the news'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'circulate news' instead of 'disseminate' or 'report', and 'legit proof' which is too informal for an IELTS essay. Expanding the range of vocabulary and focusing on more formal, precise academic collocations would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some local activities are happen', 'pictures... gives nation') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent in places. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
