Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the effectiveness of pictures versus words in news media. You have a clear position, although the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first paragraph introduces the topic, but the arguments in the second and third paragraphs are occasionally vague. For instance, the claim that TV helps 'reform new categories' is unclear, and the discussion on newspapers lacks specific examples to support the benefits mentioned. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed argument supported by concrete examples or logical explanations, rather than listing multiple points briefly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Alternatively' and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is disjointed. For example, the transition between the benefits of TV and the shift in production houses is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help create a smoother progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
There is an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, but the essay is significantly hindered by frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'incearsing', 'artical', 'digtal', 'effictive', 'modren', 'peice', 'anylatical'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary like 'cognitive abilities' and 'social isolation', the overall control is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and ensure that words are used in the correct collocation, such as 'mental peace of mind' which is redundant.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('stories has', 'it don't be', 'it improves to get back'), incorrect verb forms ('convinent to saw', 'significantly improves individuals perference'), and missing articles. These errors occur throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
