Student answer (Band 6.0)
Pictures used in newspapers and in news stories are very common way to explain any event. Most people believe that it is an effective method to explain any news story. In my opinion, sometime graphs, photos are more easily understand as compared to words. Because picture clearly potrate correct emotions of news.
I think photos explain more than words. With the help of diagrams and pictural data we understand better. For example, when we listen news on radios at that moment we all Imagin that news and create rough picture of that news in our brain. Same as when we saw some news on tv we always concentrate more on photo then words. News related to some disaster watching on tv and news anchor play video clip of that then we feel same pain which feels by people who are affected by that natural disaster.
Moreover, when we read a newspaper, we always see pictures first then make some idea about that. If it is interested and meaning to us, then we read it carefully. Also, some time newspaper uses pictural data such as graphs and diagram for some analysis and market price shows like gold, silver etc. Then we only connected with graphs we did not read figures in words also it saves our time to understand any news fastly.
In my conclusion, I feel that picture are essential parts of any news. For better understanding. Picture data more reliable than any figure and word data. And it is also helping us to get any news quickly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion that pictures are more effective than words. You provide relevant examples, such as the emotional impact of disaster footage and the efficiency of graphs for market data. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about radio listeners imagining news is interesting but could be expanded to better contrast with the visual medium. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments occasionally rely on generalisations rather than deep analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph fully explores the 'why' behind your opinion with more sophisticated reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For example', and 'In my conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'Same as when we saw some news'. Additionally, the concluding sentence of the second paragraph is slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'natural disaster', 'analysis', and 'essential parts'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and non-standard collocations, such as 'pictural data', 'fastly' (which is not a standard adverb), and 'meaning to us'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or precise vocabulary that would elevate the response. To improve, focus on learning the correct forms of words and exploring synonyms to avoid repeating basic terms like 'news' and 'pictures'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('picture are', 'newspaper uses'), missing articles ('on tv', 'in newspapers'), and incorrect verb forms ('which feels by people'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments and comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be highly beneficial.
