Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 156 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed examples and ensure you provide a full conclusion. The current length prevents a full discussion of the topic, which is a requirement for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, using transition signals like 'First and foremost' and 'In addition'. However, the progression is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending makes the overall structure feel unfinished. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way. To improve, focus on completing your thoughts and ensuring that each paragraph flows logically into the next, providing a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'understand it' and 'news'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'news became very important part of life' (missing articles) and 'news describe in typical language'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to media and communication, and pay closer attention to article usage and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding articles ('the news', 'a newspaper'), subject-verb agreement ('news became'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple, and there is a lack of complex structures. The incomplete sentence at the end further highlights issues with control. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and the use of articles. Practice combining simple sentences into complex ones using subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
