Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is currently a contentious argument over adding crime and crime photos along with news stories, on digital devices and in newspapers, which is very effective. I totally agree with this opinion because it promotes clarity about the situation and the face reveal of the criminal or the crime platform.

The first and foremost reason why I agree is that it describes the exact situation in a clear way. This is because people's curiosity is more satisfied, and they understand the depth of the situation in an easy-peasy way. For example, when people understand the situation, they can research more content of interest on other platforms and learn more about it. Therefore, humans can judge the exact scenario in a few hours and demand revenge.

Another important reason is that the face reveal of criminals is in front of everyone. In other words, sometimes people are trapped with the same criminals in the same situation due to unware about criminals' faces. For instance, in India, many innocent people lost their lifetime saving dut to blind trust in similar frauds in various cities. As a result, the crime rate will definitely reduce when people know criminals by their faces and concentrate on their daily chores instead of spending money and time on frauds by criminals.

Having analyzed the various aspects of the issue in question, it is concluded that pictures, along with news on television and in the newspaper, are beneficial because of the clarity of the situation and knowing criminals by face.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion on the effectiveness of pictures in news. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide reasons, the arguments—such as 'demanding revenge' or 'concentrating on daily chores'—are slightly underdeveloped and lack a nuanced connection to the broader societal impact of visual media. The focus shifts heavily toward crime reporting rather than the general role of imagery in journalism, which narrows the scope of your response. To improve, ensure your supporting examples directly relate to the prompt's broader context and provide more depth to your reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'The first and foremost reason' and 'In other words' to link your points. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition from the general idea of 'clarity' to the specific example of 'demanding revenge' is somewhat abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next will help elevate your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Phrases like 'easy-peasy way' are too informal for an IELTS essay, which requires a more academic tone. You use some relevant terms like 'contentious' and 'fraud', but there is a reliance on simpler, repetitive language. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding informal idioms. Expanding your range of vocabulary to include more topic-specific terminology related to media and communication would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'unware about criminals' faces' (should be 'unaware of') and 'lost their lifetime saving dut to' (spelling and preposition errors). While these errors do not fully impede communication, they are noticeable. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading for minor spelling slips. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will also help demonstrate better control over your grammar.
