Student answer (Band 5.5)

Newspaper and TV shows display more pictures while describing any news/ task.

Some people have objection that the exact news or message could not be conveyed due to extra visual images and some people says pictures are more effective rhan words.

In my opinion it is rightly done . Because people get more attracted towards visual things than hearing. Moreover it is research based proof that 80 percent memory is based on visual image.

Definitely visual images appeal more. It catches more attention of people than hearing or audio news.

It is congnitively proved that when more than one sense is involved in any activity it attracts more.

To get proper understanding and perception it is compulsory any material should be eye catching and mesmerising.

To keep all these things in mind experts demonstrates more pictures and visual images in any TV shows and newspapers.

It is oftenly noticed that the news specially tv shows clip/ reels video gets more attention just because of visual images. Sometimes it conveys messages through body language and gestures. And people recall the specific video clip / TV shows/ news due to this .

So in my point of view it is totally justified and right to put more images / visuals in TV shows and newspapers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 213 words. This under-length significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you provide reasons for your position, such as the cognitive impact of visual stimuli, the arguments remain somewhat repetitive and lack depth or specific, illustrative examples. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or real-world scenarios to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into short, somewhat disjointed paragraphs. While there is a logical progression of ideas, the use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition 'To keep all these things in mind' is slightly awkward. The paragraphing is also inconsistent, with some very short sentences that disrupt the flow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly, and ensure that each paragraph contains a well-developed central idea.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'visual things' and 'news', and there are some awkward collocations such as 'oftenly noticed' (should be 'often noticed') and 'congnitively proved'. The repetition of words like 'pictures' and 'visual images' limits the sophistication of your writing. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and academic collocations to express your ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Some people have objection that' (missing article), 'some people says' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'it is compulsory any material should be' (missing connector). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of slashes. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing necessary conjunctions.
