Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that stories and new updates are coming with pictures, nowadays. This essay explains the reasons, whether pictures are more take attention or wordings. From my perspective, yes pictures explain every aspect of the scene as compared to words alone.

To begin with one main reason is that anyone can understand half of the stories and news by only looking the pictures, then after looking they read for better understanding. Moreover, students attract more towards learning new things and better get the knowledge about any lessons and it creates the sense of imagination. This is because pictures tell story alone effectively. For instance, nowadays in the schools teachers use colorful books with many pictures for teaching the students. As a result, students taking interest in study more and understanding and imagination about the stories build in positive way.

Another important point to consider is that pictures enhance the attraction in TV shows and newspapers. In other words, pictures can also a way of advertising products for many companies. A clear example is newspaper agencies publish new products details along with pictures. Consequently, after consumer watching the ad, they go for buying. Moreover, because of this economy can also boosts in term of employments, investments and everyone can get benefit from this.

In conclusion, there are many advantages of pictures accompanied with new programs on TV and newspaper. I believe that people definitely add pictures with every updated material. This is mainly because it can enhance the productivity in their work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether pictures are more effective than words in news stories, and a clear personal position is presented. Ideas are put forward, such as how pictures aid children's learning and boost advertising effectiveness, but these arguments are somewhat under-developed and lack extended academic depth. For instance, the transition to economic growth in the third paragraph is somewhat tangential and not fully linked back to the core debate of pictures versus words. However, the writer does cover the main parts of the task and expresses a relevant opinion throughout, aligning best with a Band 6 level of task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are employed to structure the text, though some referencing and transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'then after looking they read for better understanding'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate main ideas, but the logical progression within paragraphs sometimes stumbles due to awkward phrasing and run-on sentences. Overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic concepts about pictures, news, and learning. However, there are frequent inappropriate word choices and collocations, such as 'new updates are coming with pictures', 'more take attention', and 'wordings'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and there are occasional errors in word formation, such as 'economy can also boosts'. Despite these limitations, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general message without severely impeding the reader, placing it firmly at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are frequently faulty or awkwardly constructed. Examples of grammatical errors include 'stories and new updates are coming with pictures', 'anyone can understand half of the stories... by only looking the pictures', and 'students taking interest in study'. Punctuation and verb tense consistency also present issues throughout the text. While these errors are noticeable and require the reader to occasionally re-read parts of the text, they do not completely prevent communication, reflecting a Band 5.0 level of grammatical control.
