Student answer (Band 5.0)

In modern era, any stories on TV and in newspapers are very accompanied by pictures. Some people believe these pictures have great impact on people rather than words. I believe these pictures contain great effect on children.

On the one hand, when someone prefer to watch news on Television and in newspapers. They want to imagine the picture. For instance if we talk about past, there is only one Radio in whole village and everyone gathered and listen news. No colorful TV's were present at that time. But people were very happy about that. But nowadays we have big LED's 42 inches, 62 inches and so on. People wants to satisfy their inner need. As money came people prefer to watch big to big TV.

On the other hand, these pictures play a important role in our life. Because when we watch any serial or movie on the TV. They are colorful, good decor, great acting skills, screen quality. We develop more interest. Even hours we spend while watching but we cannot imagine it is 3 hours. In other words as for newspapers contain pictures, because it consists of digital prints, ideas, photographs of celebrities, cricketer, community members. When we saw them . We are happy.

In my opinion, I think it impacts both in positive and negative way. Because sometime it contains nude pictures. I dont think so it will be good for children. In other words it develop more interest in written article.

In conclusion, If pictures should be in the newspaper or on TV. It must be but it should not contain any sexual , nude things. Because it effects child mental and physical health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt generally by discussing whether pictures are more effective than words, particularly focusing on their impact on children and media. However, the position wanders somewhat. In the introduction, the writer states a belief that pictures have a 'great effect on children,' but the body paragraphs shift to discuss TV sizes, general historical changes, and television viewing habits before returning to the topic of children in the conclusion. Ideas are often repetitive and lack deep extension, presenting tangential historical points like radios in villages instead of fully developing arguments about visual versus textual communication. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the lack of a clear, sustained position and under-developed supporting ideas align this performance with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the overall organization and logical progression are frequently disrupted. Sentences often feel disconnected, and cohesive devices are misused or absent. For instance, transitional phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are applied mechanically and do not introduce truly contrasting arguments. Furthermore, referencing is unclear in sentences such as 'When we saw them . We are happy,' where the pronoun reference is vague. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph structure lacks clear thematic unity, moving abruptly from TV screens to newspapers and back without smooth logical transitions. This overall structural deficiency places the response at Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and frequently repetitive, relying on basic vocabulary such as 'pictures,' 'words,' 'big,' and 'happy.' There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'very accompanied by pictures' instead of 'frequently accompanied,' and 'as money came people prefer to watch big to big TV.' The writer attempts some less common items like 'celebrities' and 'community members,' but spelling and morphological errors occur, such as 'cricketer' instead of 'cricketers' or 'cricket matches,' and 'effects' instead of 'affects.' Vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic meaning, but frequent lexical inaccuracies and repetition restrict the score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many complex attempts are faulty and ungrammatical. For example, sentence fragments and dependent clauses standing alone are common, such as 'For instance if we talk about past, there is only one Radio in whole village...' and 'When we saw them . We are happy.' There are also frequent errors in article usage, tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'these pictures play a important role,' 'It must be but it should not contain'). While basic communication is generally achieved, frequent grammatical errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader, placing this submission firmly at a Band 5 level.
