Student answer (Band 5.0)

Replacing drawings with verbal or written expressions during new tales on TV and in magazine.

I will disagree with the saying that written expressions give deep meaning compared to image descriptions both on TV shows and in daily magazine post.

Information started with words expressed from our thoughts, which gradually reflects on our verbal expressions. Novels and great story books were used to translate our thoughts into words, plays, and actions. this process had confidently translated into our news on TV shows, movies, video interviews and as many films we can think of, from the past generations to recent days. In addition, most writers value written journals because of sales and hard copies last longer than digital items. but, this has greatly change over the years, because stories are now documented in pictures or drawings.

However, as an individual, I learn and adapt quickly with drawings, symnols, pictures and schematics. In my own view, i would prefer images to words, because pictures give practical examples, which reflect better understanding, than having to than having to think your thought through a given word. for example, engineers and doctors use physical object to give meaning to their expressions, they use equations to reflect results, which make perfect sense to my understand.

In conclusion, if every other discipline, especially the advertising industry would use images, pictures to describe or express their sales, people will be more interested in watching our these expression is displayed in images like animations or cartoon characters. this single act will make understanding better and simplified.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether pictures are more effective than words in news stories. The writer takes a clear position, stating that they prefer images to words because pictures provide practical examples and a better understanding. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and lack full development. For instance, the discussion moves from general thoughts on storytelling to personal learning styles and engineering examples without thoroughly exploring the comparative effectiveness of visual media versus text in journalism. While the position is understandable, the supporting arguments are occasionally disjointed and would benefit from deeper elaboration and more directly addressing news media contexts. Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some organizational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical links between ideas are frequently strained. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. For example, sentences like 'Information started with words expressed from our thoughts' and 'this process had confidently translated into our news' do not connect smoothly to the surrounding arguments. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the historical overview of writing in paragraph two and the personal preference in paragraph three feels abrupt. Cohesive devices are used minimally or inaccurately, resulting in a score of 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, with terms like 'expressions', 'journals', 'schematics', and 'animations'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling throughout the text, such as 'new tales' instead of 'news stories', 'magazine post', and 'symnols' instead of 'symbols'. These lexical inaccuracies and occasional awkward collocations can cause some difficulty for the reader, although communication is generally maintained. The student attempts to use some less common words, but control is inconsistent, placing this performance firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple and moderately complex sentences that frequently contain grammatical errors. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('this has greatly change over the years'), punctuation flaws, and awkward phrasing such as 'than having to than having to think your thought'. Complex structures are attempted, but they are often faulty and impede clarity. Additionally, capitalization errors are present, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('this single act'). Because frequent grammatical errors cause difficulty and strain readability, a band score of 4.5 is appropriate, rounded to 5.0 based on the presence of some correct simple structures.
