Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student addresses the prompt by stating an opinion and attempting to provide reasons and examples, such as mentioning news articles and personal communication. However, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, containing only 185 words. This under-length severely limits the development of ideas, keeping the task response at a lower band. While the position is clear, the arguments lack sufficient elaboration and depth, leading to a partial fulfillment of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some basic organization with cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclution'. However, paragraphing is problematic; the main body is lumped into a single block of text rather than being properly structured. Additionally, referencing and logical progression are often faulty, as seen in the abrupt transitions between ideas regarding newscasters, brand catalogs, and personal memories. This results in mechanical cohesion and a lack of smooth progression throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with basic terms such as 'picture', 'message', and 'beautiful'. There are also frequent spelling and word-choice errors, including 'messege', 'completly', 'explor', 'speachless', 'conway', 'exquse', 'lounch', 'publition', 'quoat', 'exemple', and 'secen'. These errors and the restricted range of vocabulary constrain the clarity of the text and place the lexical score in the lower band range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent structural faults. There are numerous grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the response, such as comma splices and missing articles (e.g., 'effective by picture', 'picture is a first messege', 'we get help the picture', 'some newscaster to publish new artical they suggest'). These pervasive errors frequently impede communication and strain the reader's understanding.
