Student answer (Band 6.0)

Pictures are frequentlly used, nowadays, to show news coverages on screens and papers. Many people believe that using those is more reliable and attracting as compare to reading words only, and I also agree with this view since picture can be an authentic source of evidence.

One of the main reasons is that pictures in newspapers and on TV gain more attention from the reader or viewer. People tend to watch and read the news that they find attractive to them, and filtering news through shown pictures to differntiate if that is important to them or not, thereby increasing the information understanding of it, effctively. This is largely because they do not want to consume their valuable time on unimportant or invaluable to them. For example, pictures increases the authenticity of the news, which helps to demonstrates the information significantly. Consequently, individuals easily make assumptions regarding on what they are going to read or watch in news stories.

Pictures can increase the understanding of consisted informations, and I believe this is an effctive way to indulge a number of individuals. This is largely because news that has no pictures as an evidence, it raise the question on its genuinety because people may observe it as a made up news to gain views only. For instance, many news in the newspapers and TV are shown as the most important one; however, they end-up as a fake ones without supporting evidences. That is why, I believe that pictures are an integral part of news.

In conclusion, pictures are believed to be more authentic and effective than words, I also opine that they act as a vital catalyst to attract individuals and prove the authenticity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing whether pictures are more effective than words in accompanying news stories and clearly states the writer's position agreeing with this view. The ideas are extended and supported with examples, such as how pictures increase authenticity and help individuals filter important news. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize and become slightly repetitive in the third paragraph when discussing fake news. The main position remains clear throughout the essay. This performance aligns well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors, and given the clear stance and developed support, a Band 6.5 is appropriate as some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points about attention and authenticity. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases and referencing are occasionally awkward, such as 'filtering news through shown pictures to differntiate if that is important to them or not, thereby increasing the information understanding of it, effctively.' The progression of ideas becomes slightly tangled in the second and third paragraphs due to run-on sentences and imprecise cohesive ties. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'authentic source of evidence,' 'genuinity,' and 'catalyst.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, including 'frequentlly,' 'attracting' instead of 'attractive,' 'differntiate,' 'consisted informations,' 'effctive,' and 'fake ones.' While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score. The writer shows an awareness of appropriate topic-specific vocabulary, but control over word formation and collocation needs improvement, corresponding to a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with subordinate clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors that cause minor disruption for the reader. Examples include 'picture can be an authentic source' (singular/plural mismatch), 'pictures increases' (subject-verb agreement error), 'regarding on what' (unnecessary preposition), and 'news that has no pictures as an evidence, it raise' (faulty clause structure). Punctuation is also occasionally misused, such as unnecessary comma splices and intrusive commas around 'nowadays'. Because errors occur frequently but rarely impede overall understanding, this performance sits comfortably at Band 6.0.
