Student answer (Band 6.0)
With the advancement in technology, everything is getting digitalized, even the news stories on television and in newspaper is published with pictures. Some commend that this is a positive development and is more effective than words. I firmly believe that this improvement in the news industry has gained a significant attraction among people and helps to understand everything easily.
To begin with, pictures plays an invaluable role to describe the news. Nowadays, every individual is connected to the pace of technology. Undoubtedly, getting a news story digitally allows us to understand and watch without the intervention of texts. For instance, the news channels, such as CNB or BBC, provides on-ground reporting whether it is a crime or related to sudden tragidy in other country. People finds it more connecting when they see live footage and this way citizens become aware about the ongoing discussions and issues around the world.
Additionally, this approch is widely described as a time-saving because pictures allow us to understand the basic story of the news. A clear example is, in some companies the use of phones is strictly prohibited during working hours. During break, they have limited time to scroll and read the full detailed description of the news, just by having a look on the picture in the newspaper, they could discover the main theme and issue which is going on in the news. As a result, it saves their time and they donot need to risk their job, just to read the news.
Based on the aforementioned reasoning, it is understandable that news stories on TV and in newspapers is exceptionally helpful for individuals to create a better connection. We are not required to read the words, pictures clarify everything without stressing our mind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether pictures are more effective than words in news stories, presenting a clear position in favor of visual aids. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as reference to live reporting on news channels like CNN or BBC, and a workplace scenario demonstrating how images save time. However, the development of ideas leans towards being somewhat generalized, particularly regarding how pictures replace words entirely. While all parts of the task are addressed, the depth of extension places this securely at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay is organized into a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a concluding summary, providing a coherent overall arrangement. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'Based on the aforementioned reasoning'. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel mechanical or are slightly faulty, as seen with pronoun agreement issues like 'People finds it more connecting'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but overall progression could be smoother to reach higher bands.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'digitalized', 'invaluable role', and 'unambiguous'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'Some commend that this is a positive development' instead of 'comment', 'sudden tragidy' (spelling error), and 'significant attraction among people'. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptor well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are several grammatical and agreement errors throughout the text, such as 'news stories... is published' (plural/singular mismatch), 'pictures plays' (subject-verb agreement), 'People finds', and 'this approch is widely described as a time-saving'. Punctuation is generally functional, but these frequent minor errors place the grammar score at Band 5.5, reflecting a limitation in grammatical accuracy when attempting complex constructions.
