Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the effectiveness of pictures alongside words in news stories, and a clear position is presented. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as how pictures aid rapid comprehension and create emotional connections for events like natural disasters, as seen when you noted that "pictures help to understand news quickly because it shows place and situation." However, some ideas are under-developed or lack full elaboration. For instance, the discussion on emotional connection relies on a single brief example regarding a child in a disaster without fully exploring the broader implications. To move to a higher level, you need to extend and support your arguments with deeper explanations and more comprehensive examples rather than moving quickly between points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate main ideas, such as dedicating the second paragraph to quick understanding and attractiveness, and the third to emotional connection. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like "This paragraph will discuss about the pictures" or the abrupt transition "otherwise, many pictures needs word description." Furthermore, logical progression between sentences can be disjointed, and cohesive devices are sometimes over-used or inaccurate, creating a choppy reading experience. To improve, ensure that transitions flow smoothly and that referencing words clearly link back to the correct antecedents.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing sufficient range to communicate basic ideas about news and pictures. You make attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as "beneficial," "empathy," and "meaningful," but these are accompanied by noticeable word-choice, word-form, and spelling errors that occasionally impede communication, such as "chennal," "undarstand," "intresting," "esier," "properly" instead of property, and "innatural." Errors in word formation, like "picture made information more attractive," show limited control over collocations and lexical precision. To achieve a higher score, you should expand your control of less common lexical items, ensure correct word forms, and eliminate spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, such as conditional or dependent clauses like "While some people believe that pictures are more effective than words." However, your attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by basic structural errors, and there are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement, pluralisation, and articles, such as "New stories on TV and in a newspaper are often shown with picture," "picture are effective," and "many pictures needs word description." Punctuation errors, such as sentence fragments and unnecessary full stops ("For example, if a child need innatural disaster. So , the picture shows it clearly"), are also present. To reach the next level, you need to increase your control over grammatical structures and produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences.
