Student answer (Band 6.0)

Well, it is undeniable that pictures plays a pivotal role in everyones' life. On that note, photos attched with news are very often in news stories on TV and in newspapers. A fraction number of people say that these pictures are more engaging than words. In this essay I will not only articulate my reasons but my inclination will also be highlighted in the forthcoming paragraphs.

There are multitudinous reasons behind this notion. To embark with, it helps to understand story in a clear way. To be more precise, if stories comes with a picture, humankind can read and get better understand by looking at the photo. For example, humans only read without watching their visual people just asume the story but if they read it with view they can feel it more deeper way. Moreover, It assist to make story more attractive. In other words, if news comes with pictures people attracted to read the story otherwise people find it monotonus by reading.

Apart from that, it saves time of reading whole story as people do not need to read whole story if they do not have much time, they just read it some topics and by looking at the pictures they can get the ideas of whole story. Last but not the least, it helps elder as well as childrens to understand story without reading. For example, kids and older folks do not like to reading and some of them can not read so they can enjoy the story by watching pictures. Thus, news paper and TV stories comes with visuals.

To recapitulate, even though there are some drawbacks such as some of the pictures are not good for kids nurturing. I still deem that advantages are much more like it helps to understand easily, make story more attractive, saves time, and helpful for kids and older people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position regarding whether pictures are more effective than words in news stories. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as pictures helping younger and older generations understand news more easily and saving time for readers. However, some of these ideas are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the point about saving time by looking at pictures instead of reading the whole story is mentioned but lacks specific examples or further elaboration. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all main arguments with richer explanations and more robust supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the information is divided into logical paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to signal the progression of ideas, such as "To embark with," "Moreover," and "Apart from that." However, some cohesion is mechanical or slightly awkward, and referencing is not always clear, as seen in phrases like "on that note" and repetitive sentence openings. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but transitional links between sentences could be smoothed out to ensure a more seamless logical progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "pivotal role," "multitudinous," and "monotonus." However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that stem from these attempts, such as "attched" instead of attached, "human-kind" used awkwardly, and "monotonus" instead of monotonous. While these vocabulary and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, they reflect some limitations in lexical precision and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly involving subject-verb agreement ("pictures plays," "stories comes"), pluralization and articles ("a fraction number of people," "news paper"), and prepositions. While the meaning remains mostly clear despite these mistakes, the density of basic grammatical inaccuracies means that error-free sentences are limited, placing the grammar control firmly within this band.
