Student answer (Band 6.0)

People hold differing opinions regarding visuals are necessary to be presented on the news channels or print media. I strongly believe that it is crucial for the pictures to be on various platforms and I do have strong rationale about it, which is explained in coming paragraphs.

Primarily, pictures and visuals on various platforms are important, as these days to get attention from everyone, whether its is news, stories and blogs. Because it creates a sense of attraction, now a days mostly young generation is not attracted towards news at all for which companies have to create new ideas to get attention from them. As world is evolving in every sector unlike past times people usually listen to radios and announcements on various channels without visuals. Subsequently,it is of keen importance for videos to be uploaded parallely to audio in news because it gives additional sense to the things. Such as a proof to the story what is happpening and what has already occured which creates more sense of satisfaction to the viewers seeing it.

Aditionally, most significant things is that picture help overcome language barriers. For example- visuals of earth quake and floods shows the extent of destruction and encourages people to donate to the affected communities.Nevertheless, solely relying on visuals can cause misrepresentaion of specific data and comprehensive information.

In conclusion, although pictures are highly effective in attracting, but I believe written expressions are equally important. Therefore combining both form is the most attractive approach in news media.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support using pictures in news, while your conclusion recognises that written explanations remain important. You give relevant reasons, including attracting younger audiences and helping people understand disasters across language barriers, and the earthquake and flood example is appropriate. However, the response does not fully develop the comparison asked for: it explains benefits of pictures more than when or why they are more effective than words. The point that visuals can misrepresent information is useful but is only briefly mentioned. The response is also two words below the required minimum. To strengthen the argument, explain a specific situation where an image communicates more effectively than text, then qualify this with a clear example of information words convey better.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, with a generally understandable progression from attracting attention to overcoming language barriers and then acknowledging a limitation. Linking expressions such as “Primarily,” “For example” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of an organised response and shows some features of stronger progression. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “Because it creates a sense of attraction” is a fragment whose link to the preceding sentence is not fully controlled, while “Subsequently” does not clearly express the relationship between the ideas. The conclusion also introduces the balance between pictures and words rather abruptly. Use more precise transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “language barriers,” “extent of destruction,” “affected communities” and “misrepresentation,” which helps communicate relevant ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “differing opinions” and “comprehensive information.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, as in “strong rationale about it,” “pictures to be on various platforms,” and “additional sense to the things.” Spelling errors such as “happpening,” “Aditionally” and “misrepresentaion” also reduce accuracy. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your main points, but greater control is needed for more precise expression. Learn common collocations for discussing media and revise spelling carefully; for example, say “provide evidence for a story” rather than “a proof to the story.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which creates more sense of satisfaction” and a contrast in “although pictures are highly effective … written expressions are equally important.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “People hold differing opinions regarding visuals are necessary” needs a grammatical link such as “about whether visuals are necessary”; “pictures help” requires plural agreement, while “most significant things is” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention: “Because it creates…” is a fragment, and several spaces and commas are missing. These errors do not generally prevent communication, but editing for complete clauses, agreement and punctuation would make your varied structures more reliable.
