Student answer (Band 6.0)
Thesedays, television and paper media usually add pictures while covering the News stories., and some individuals find these photographes better than words. In my opinion, pictures on news stories is a better approch by media to attract people and be more illustrative.
Mostly all News channels and Newspaper have relevant pictures of the News stories because this helps them to grab attention of people to watch their channel or read their newspaper. People are more likely to get attracted towards eye-catching or colored photograhs. News stories with photographs are not only attractive, but also more illustrative for some people who can not read much. Taking an example of The Hindustand Times in newspaper in India, this newspaper is the most selling newspaper among all age groups owing to its colored news and photographs. People who are not well-educated and children who can not read yet, still understand what is happening around the world by looking at the photographs.
Furthermore, adding photographs with news stories can also save people from mishappening that they are not aware of. If there is any scam or crime alert, people can understand about it in a better way from photographs. For example, in India, cyber crime is increasing at an alarming rate and cyber police shared some photos and links of several crimes through news channels with the residents, and in this way people saved themselves from being victims. Besides, for people with some disabilities such as hearing problem or weak eyesight news with relevant pictures can assist a lot for getting news. BBC news anchors deliver news with sign language and suitable pictures to make everyone understand about latest update around the world.
In conclusion, in my opinion, accompaning TV and Newspaper news stories with pictures is an effective approch by news channels and companies, because in some situations pictures tells more clearly than words.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear throughout: you believe pictures are more effective because they attract attention and help people understand news. You address the question directly and support your view with relevant examples, including newspaper readers who cannot read easily and the use of images in crime alerts. The examples make the response persuasive, and the conclusion restates your opinion. This fits a response that addresses all parts and extends its ideas with support. Some claims, however, are broad or not fully explained—for instance, the claim that photographs help people with weak eyesight is not clarified, and the cybercrime example could explain more precisely how the images helped residents avoid becoming victims. Developing these points with clearer links to your main argument would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your opinion, two body paragraphs give separate reasons, and a conclusion summarises your view. The progression from attracting readers to helping people understand or respond to news is logical. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader, and paragraphing is appropriate. At times, however, the connections feel somewhat formulaic, and some references are not fully clear. For example, “this newspaper” follows the Hindustan Times example but the sentence’s claim about its popularity and coloured news is not smoothly connected to the point about accessibility. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make the relationship between each example and its supporting claim more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “eye-catching,” “illustrative,” “crime alert,” and “victims,” and you attempt some less common expressions. However, the range and control are limited by repeated use of “pictures,” “news stories,” and “people,” as well as several inaccurate word choices and collocations. Phrases such as “better approach by media,” “most selling newspaper,” and “saved themselves from being victims” are understandable but not natural in this context. Spelling errors, including “photograhs,” “approch,” and “accompaning,” also reduce accuracy. Aim to vary key terms and check spelling, while learning common combinations such as “a more effective way for the media” and “the best-selling newspaper.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “who,” and “that,” and the main ideas remain understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation occur often enough to limit accuracy. For example, “pictures on news stories is” should use a plural verb, while “pictures tells” also needs plural agreement. The opening sentence has an unnecessary comma and a full stop after “stories,” which disrupts the sentence. There are also awkward constructions such as “People who are not well-educated and children who can not read yet, still understand,” where the comma separates the subject from its verb. Practise checking each sentence for subject–verb agreement and punctuation, and revise complex sentences for clear structure.
