Student answer (Band 5.5)
Visual aids are very useful in explaining stories on TV and newspaper. This essay will highlight the advantages of these pictures over the words. I believe that pictures are helpful in explaining the content comprehensively.
Pictures on TV and newspaper are beneficial than words. This is because of the colurful display of the content. As a result, more people get attracted towards the content. For instance, the number of memeberships in Children Libraray Complex increased significantly after the libraray began showing the stories with pictures on TV. In addition to this, adding pictures on TV stories and in newspaper make stories easy to understand. Therefore, children and adults both can equally enjoy reading and undrstanding stories and newsppaer. For example, the sale of local newspaper increased highly after the writer added pictures in their articles.
I believe that pictures elaborate the content in a better way. Sometime it is difficult to picture or imagine the content. So, pictures explain what is written in between the lines. In my bachelors degree, it was difficult to comprehend the cycle of reproduction in plants. But our teacher explained it through pictures and flow diagram and every concept became clear in our mind. On top of that, pictures in news stories on TVs and newspaper help reduce the paper. So, less paper usage reduces the wastage. Sustainalbe develpment goals may be fulfilled.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you believe pictures explain news and other content more effectively than words. You give relevant reasons, including attracting readers, making stories easier to understand, and clarifying a plant-reproduction lesson, with examples to support them. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the examples about library memberships and newspaper sales are asserted without explaining how pictures caused the increase, and the paper-use point is not clearly connected to whether pictures are more effective than words. The response also falls 20 words short of the required minimum, and the conclusion is left unfinished after “In conclusion,”. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and complete the essay with a concise summary of your opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and an attempted conclusion. Paragraphs generally group related points, and linking expressions such as “As a result,” “In addition to this,” and “On top of that” help signal relationships. However, progression is uneven: the second body paragraph moves from explaining difficult concepts to reducing paper use without a clear transition or explanation of the connection. Some links are mechanical, and the final paragraph contains only “In conclusion,” so the essay does not reach a complete ending. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main point, connect examples explicitly to that point, and finish with a complete concluding statement.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of task-related vocabulary, including “visual aids,” “comprehensively,” “elaborate,” and “sustainable development goals,” and the main ideas remain understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “pictures,” “content,” and “stories,” while several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “beneficial than words,” “attracted towards the content,” and “reduce the paper.” Spelling errors such as “colurful,” “memeberships,” “Libraray,” and “undrstanding” are noticeable and weaken control. Aim for more precise expressions and proofread carefully; for example, use “more effective than words,” “attract readers,” and “reduce paper consumption.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures such as “This is because…” and “As a result…,” and most of the intended meaning can be followed. However, errors occur in sentence construction and agreement. For example, “adding pictures … make stories easy to understand” needs a singular verb (“makes”), while “children and adults both can equally enjoy” has awkward word order and redundant adverb use. The opening phrase “on TV and newspaper” also lacks consistent article and plural forms, and “In conclusion,” is an incomplete sentence. These issues show that complex ideas are not yet controlled consistently. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals and complete sentence boundaries.
