Student answer (Band 6.0)

News channels always try to find effective ways to convey messages to the residents. In recent years, they have started to add pictures in newspapers and small video clips in TV channels and they have received positive response from viewers. Some people assert that this approach of sharing information is very helpful. From my perspective, it become easy to interpret stories from pictures and avoid any misunderstanding. This essay will outline appropriate methods to reach news to audience.

To begin, photos attached to the stories makes it easy to understand in positive manners. It also catch the attention of important events such as Football, Cricket or Olympic games. Lengthy story may require lot of time to read, whereas attached photo makes it easy to understand articles without spending a minute in some cases. For example, vivid pictures of playing games increase the curiosity in people to read the articles.

On the other hand, it is very difficult to imagine some events without pictures. Written articles may have included details, but many times people used to skip some lines in order to catch up fast and they end up imagine something else. For example, lengthy stories about destruction from fire in the building do not show how much destruction has been done but adding pictures with the story show them real result.

To sum up, although picture can tell the stories of some articles, detail information should not be ignored. Pictures make these stories more interesting and convey messages appropriately. Newspapers and TV channels should be appreciated more for sharing such detail stories in accurate way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you believe pictures help people interpret news and avoid misunderstanding, while acknowledging that detailed information should not be ignored. The examples about sports photographs and fire damage are relevant and help explain your view. This addresses the question, but the comparison between pictures and words is not explored equally: the essay mainly explains the benefits of images, with little discussion of what written reporting can communicate more effectively. Some points also need fuller development—for instance, explain how a photograph might clarify the scale of fire damage, while words provide context or causes. A more explicit, balanced comparison would make your response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to two supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. The contrast marker “On the other hand” helps signal a shift, and examples are placed alongside the points they support. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, with “To begin” and “To sum up” doing much of the linking. The second body paragraph also continues to argue for pictures rather than presenting a contrasting view, so its relationship to “On the other hand” is unclear. Some references are imprecise, such as “they” in “they end up imagine something else,” which makes the reader pause to identify who is meant. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and make paragraph roles more consistent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “convey messages,” “curiosity,” “destruction,” and “interpret stories.” These choices make the subject clear, and the examples show an effort to use more specific language than basic everyday terms. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “positive manners,” “catch the attention of important events,” and “real result.” “Detail information” is also an awkward combination. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships—for example, photographs can “draw attention to” events, and images can “show the extent of the damage”—and check whether nouns and adjectives fit together idiomatically.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause with “whereas” and a concession in the conclusion. Most ideas remain understandable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “photos attached to the stories makes” should use a plural verb, and “it become easy” needs a correctly formed verb. In “they end up imagine,” the verb pattern should be “end up imagining.” The sentence beginning “Written articles may have included details” also uses an awkward tense for a general point. Review subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence for tense consistency. More accurate control of these structures would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
