Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to formally request you regarding the training course I want to enroll in. The course is titled ''Advanced Project Management,'' and it is scheduled to run over three weekends next month at the Professional Development Institute.
This course is directly relevant to my current role as a project coordinator. It cpvers essential frameworks such as advanced risk managemnet strategies, and resource allocation techniques. Since our department is going to transitionally updated according to new technology, I would be able to work more efficiently after this course.
As an employ, I am requesting you to pay my registration fee of $200, which you can deduct later on from my salary. Moreover, it would mean a lot if you allow me weekends off during this course. I would be very grateful.
To be honest, this course will benefit not just me but the company as well as the professors are foreigners, it will allow me to learn and exchange strategies among them. This way I would be able to implement new technological things in our company, which will boost our work.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Kind regards,
Alam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover all three requested points: you identify the project-management course and its schedule, ask the company to pay the fee and allow time off, and explain how the training could support your role. The connection to your work is relevant, especially the reference to risk management and resource allocation. However, some ideas are less fully explained: “work more efficiently” and “implement new technological things” do not specify what tasks or improvements the training would enable. The claim about learning from foreign professors is also not clearly linked to the course’s practical value. The request is clear, but a more specific explanation of the expected workplace benefits and a more consistently formal address would make the letter more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the request, describes the course, explains its relevance, and then sets out the support you need. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “This way” guide the reader through the requests and expected benefits. Some links are less clear or feel mechanical, however. For example, “To be honest” is not a natural transition in a formal request, and the sentence about foreign professors joins several ideas without showing their relationship clearly. The progression would be stronger if you grouped the course details and job benefits together, then made the financial and scheduling requests in a separate, clearly signposted paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including relevant terms such as “risk management strategies,” “resource allocation,” and “registration fee.” These choices show awareness of the professional context. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or too general, though: “transitionally updated” does not express the intended change clearly, “an employ” is not the correct noun for a worker, and “technological things” is vague. There are also spelling errors in “cpvers” and “managemnet,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for precise workplace language and check spelling carefully; for example, explain which new systems or project processes the course will help you manage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “which you can deduct later on from my salary” and the conditional structure “I would be able to work more efficiently.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are present. In “I am writing this letter to formally request you regarding,” the verb pattern is not correctly formed; use “request your approval for” or “ask you to approve.” The final benefits sentence joins independent ideas with a comma, and “as the professors are foreigners, it will allow me” has an unclear pronoun reference. Review verb patterns, sentence boundaries, and pronoun reference to make the complex sentences more controlled.
