Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the course as CNC machining for the aerospace sector and give a relevant reason for wanting it: you have recently started as a CNC machinist and your company focuses more on practical work. However, the letter is incomplete: it does not explain what support you want from the company, such as paying the fee or allowing time off, and it does not clearly state how the course would improve your work. The course description is also brief, and the final sentence is unfinished. The response is substantially below the required minimum length, so the task is addressed only partially and the ideas remain under-developed. Complete all three bullet points and explain each with specific details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The ideas follow a basic sequence: you introduce the advertisement, describe the course, and connect it to your new role. This gives the reader a simple overall direction. However, the response is one short paragraph, and the final thought, “As we only more focus on the practical part,” is incomplete, so the progression stops abruptly. Connections between ideas are also limited; for example, the relationship between the course’s theory and your company’s practical focus needs to be explained more clearly. Organise the letter into paragraphs for the course, the support requested, and its workplace benefits, and use clear linking phrases to show how each point follows.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant job-specific vocabulary, including “CNC machinist,” “aerospace,” “quality,” and “precision,” which helps establish the subject of the course. The range is nevertheless narrow, and several phrases are imprecise or awkward, such as “This training all about” and “more focus on the practical part.” Spelling and word-form accuracy also need attention: “precison” should be “precision,” and “i” should be capitalised as “I.” Aim for more precise expressions for the course content and its benefits, such as “quality-control procedures” and “improve the accuracy of my work.” This would make the letter clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response mainly uses short, simple statements, with a few attempts to connect ideas, such as “So i think this training helpful for me.” These attempts show the intended meaning, but missing verbs and incomplete structures reduce accuracy. For example, write “This training is all about CNC machining” and “I think this training will be helpful for me.” The sentence beginning “As we only more focus…” is not grammatically complete and does not clearly express the contrast intended. There are also issues with capitalisation and sentence punctuation, including the lowercase “i” and the missing full stop at the end. Practise complete sentences and use a wider mix of accurate structures.
