Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this email because I am planning to take a training course for a Fraud Analyst. I saw an advertisement for that in a newspaper and the company is also providing 30% off. In the training, company is going to teach about methods to analyse potential fraud transactions on customers accounts and will help to clear the exam as well.
The classes are going to start next month, from Monday to Friday, between 9 am to 12 pm EST and it is for the next 3 months. I am requesting accommodation for this time period. I want my work to be after 12 PM, if possible for next 3 month time period.
This course will help me a lot in my current role with the company as a Fraud and Risk Analyst. This training will give me more information on how I can check the pattern of transactions and will help me to get certified in this field.
Yours sincerely,
Mahi Sharma.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three requested points: you describe a fraud-analysis course, ask the company to adjust your working hours, and explain how the training relates to your role. The course content and schedule are specific, and the link to your work as a Fraud and Risk Analyst is relevant. However, the request for company support is not fully clear: “I am requesting accommodation for this time period” does not specify whether you need a schedule change, leave, or another arrangement, although the next sentence suggests a later shift. The benefit to your job is also somewhat general; explain more precisely how the skills or certification would improve your analysis or support the company. Clarifying these points would make the response more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: the opening introduces the course, the next paragraph gives its schedule and makes a request, and the final paragraph explains its relevance to your role. This paragraphing helps the reader follow the letter, and the progression from course details to workplace impact is logical. Some connections are still a little mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “This” to begin sentences in the final paragraph. The relationship between “requesting accommodation” and wanting to work after noon could also be made more explicit, so the reader does not have to infer what arrangement you are asking for. A more direct transition and clearer reference to the requested support would strengthen the cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including relevant terms such as “Fraud Analyst,” “potential fraud transactions,” “pattern of transactions,” and “certified.” These choices make the subject of the course and its connection to your work clear. There are some imprecise or unnatural expressions, however. “Accommodation for this time period” is vague in this context, and “clear the exam” is not the natural way to describe passing an examination. “The company is also providing 30% off” is understandable but could be expressed more precisely. Aim for accurate workplace and training collocations, while retaining the useful field-specific vocabulary already present.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and the meaning is generally clear. For example, “This course will help me a lot in my current role” is a clear statement, while the course description combines related information in a longer sentence. Some grammatical errors remain. In “In the training, company is going to teach,” the article is missing before “company”; “customers accounts” needs a possessive form; and “between 9 am to 12 pm” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. There is also a mismatch in “for the next 3 months” followed by “next 3 month time period.” Review articles, possessives, prepositions, and plural forms, and vary sentence structures more confidently.
