Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I trust this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to draw your attention to an advertisement which I read on local newspaper last friday. It was mentioned that they were conducting a training course of Veterinary's surgical skills which will be completed within two months in United kingdom.

Being a Veterinarin at Metta International Animal Hospital in thailand, It would be a great opportunity for me to get hands on experience. In addition to this, If I attend this workshop, It would extremly improve my surgical skills as well as enhance my Veterinary knowledge.

Therefore , I need your sincere support in order to attend this course. Although I have enough budget for accommodation and meal, It would be really helpful if you could arrange a return ticket for this trip.

The primary reason of why I am attending this course is that It will not only increase my surgical skill but also an international expoure of veterinary practice. It would genuinely help me to perform complex surgries with confidence while working at Metta International Animal Hospital.

I firmly believe that you would consider it and support me to participate in this course. I look forward to hearing from you promptly.

Yours faithfully,

Ali Raza

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three required points: you identify a two-month veterinary surgical-skills course in the United Kingdom, request help with a return ticket, and explain that it could improve your surgical ability and confidence with complex procedures. The purpose of the letter is clear and the request is appropriately polite. The explanation of the course’s value is relevant, but some points are repeated—for example, improving surgical skills appears in both the second and fourth paragraphs—and the benefit to the hospital or your day-to-day duties could be developed more specifically. The support requested is also quite narrow; you could clarify whether you need time off or other assistance. The response covers the task well overall, while fuller development of these details would make it more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the advertisement, explain your interest, make a request, and describe the expected benefit before closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and expressions such as “In addition to this” and “Therefore” guide the reader through your points. However, some linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “It would” and the repeated reference to improving surgical skills. The relationship between the request for a ticket and your statement that you have enough money for accommodation and meals is understandable, but could be expressed more smoothly. Use a wider range of natural transitions and clearer references, and ensure punctuation around linking phrases is consistent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a formal workplace request, including “hands on experience,” “sincere support,” “complex surgeries,” and “international exposure.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and attempts at more specialised language suit the veterinary context. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however: “Veterinary’s surgical skills” is not a natural way to describe the course, and “an international exposure” is better expressed without the article. There are also spelling errors in “Veterinarin,” “extremly,” “expoure,” and “surgries,” which reduce precision. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “veterinary surgical training” and proofread specialised terms carefully; this would make your adequate range more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use both simple sentences and more complex forms, including the conditional “If I attend this workshop, it would…” and the paired structure “not only… but also…”. The message remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur in articles, sentence construction, and punctuation. For example, “on local newspaper” needs an article, and “the primary reason of why” is an awkward construction; “the main reason I wish to attend” is more accurate. Capitalisation is inconsistent after commas and within sentences, as in “It” and “If,” and spacing before punctuation is sometimes incorrect. Review article use and sentence boundaries, and proofread punctuation and capital letters. More consistent control of these forms would strengthen the otherwise clear mix of sentence structures.
