Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to check about reimbursement policy of our company. Recently, I saw an advertisement of health and safety training program that caught my attention. It is indeed very helpful for my job as it demands heavy lifting for prolonged period of time and this 2 weeks of training will help me to understand the right techniques and methods to use while lifting any heavy loads.

My long term vision is to be a part of health and safety committee and reduce the number of accidents that are happening at our facility. In previous week, there were 2 serious injuries which could be avoided if they have been given any safety instructions.

After the training, I would like to be part of the management. Since, I have already discuss with health and safety manager, he suggested me to take this training program and understand the process. I am willing to take this challenge for myself and for the company.

Could you please help me in this matter? I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you

Kind regards,

Vaibhav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You explain the course as a two-week health and safety programme and connect it to heavy lifting, accident prevention, and your longer-term interest in joining the safety committee. These are relevant details, and the purpose of writing is generally clear. However, the request for company support is not specific: asking, “Could you please help me in this matter?” does not say whether you need the fee reimbursed, time off, or another form of assistance. The letter also shifts from asking about reimbursement to discussing management without clearly stating what decision you want from your manager. Specify the support requested and develop how the training will improve your current work to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from the course and its relevance to your career aims, then ending with a request and sign-off. Paragraphing helps separate these points, and phrases such as “Recently” and “After the training” signal progression. However, the relationship between reimbursement, joining the safety committee, and becoming “part of the management” is not always clear. The transition to the injuries in the second paragraph is relevant but could be linked more explicitly to why the course is needed. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly “Since” at the start of a sentence. Organise the letter around the three requested points and use clearer transitions to show how each supports your request.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “health and safety training program,” “heavy lifting,” “serious injuries,” and “safety instructions.” These choices make the subject and your motivation understandable, and “long term vision” communicates a future goal. Some expressions are imprecise or do not sound natural in this context, such as “check about reimbursement policy,” “part of the management,” and “take this challenge for myself.” “Advertisement of” is also less natural than the usual phrasing for referring to a course advert. Aim for more precise workplace language, especially when describing the assistance you need and the role you hope to take on. More accurate collocations would make your request sound clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes both simple sentences and longer structures, for example the sentence explaining how the course relates to lifting, and the conditional idea about preventing injuries. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. In “for prolonged period of time,” an article is needed; “this 2 weeks of training” has a number and noun agreement problem; and “I have already discuss” needs the past participle “discussed.” The sentence “Since, I have already discuss…” also uses punctuation incorrectly after the opening conjunction. In “if they have been given any safety instructions,” the tense does not fit the past situation. Review articles, agreement, verb forms, and punctuation, while retaining the longer sentence patterns you are attempting.
