Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the MS-Excel course, explained the need for half-time leave, and clearly articulated the professional benefits of the training. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To improve, ensure that your ideas are more fully developed; for example, you could specify exactly which advanced Excel features you hope to master, such as pivot tables or macros, to make your request more persuasive. Overall, the response is relevant and meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure, moving from the introduction to the specific request and the justification. Paragraphing is used, although the second paragraph is quite dense and could be split to separate the request from the benefits. You use some cohesive devices like 'As' and 'also', but the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward punctuation, such as the space before the comma in 'Recently ,'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph breaks would enhance the overall flow and readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for this task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'organisation', 'professional growth', and 'efficiently'. However, there is some repetition of basic structures and a few minor word-choice issues, such as 'builds the quality to deal with', which is not a standard collocation. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise professional vocabulary and avoid repetitive phrasing. Focus on using collocations that sound more natural in a workplace context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I can able to' (should be 'I am able to') and 'The duration for the course is of 3 months' (should be 'The course duration is three months'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, specifically the inconsistent spacing before commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct sentence construction will significantly improve your accuracy.
