Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing regarding an advertisement for a training course. I think it will be useful for my future job.

As you know, currently I work as data analyst in your company. If company provide the training in advanced technology then it will be very useful. This course will enhance my skills and provide great knowledge of deep concepts.

I will be very grateful if company could provide this course to me at free of cost. Moreover, company could hire a private tutor, who can give me in depth knowledge of advanced features. In addition, I would really appreciate it if company arrange some additional weekend classes.

Once the course will finish, I will be able to talk with foreigner clients. This will enhance our company's overall revenue and reputation among other companies.

I hope you will approve my request.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Vishal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: describing the course, explaining how the company can help, and stating the benefits. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, you mention 'advanced technology' and 'deep concepts' without specifying what the course actually entails, which makes the request feel a bit vague. To improve, provide more concrete details about the course content or the specific skills you hope to acquire. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Once the course will finish' to link your ideas. While the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, the transitions can sometimes feel a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, which helps the reader navigate your request effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'revenue', 'reputation', and 'training course'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'foreigner clients' (should be 'foreign clients') and 'at free of cost' (should be 'free of charge' or 'at no cost'). To improve, focus on learning more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions suitable for a professional workplace setting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several recurring grammatical errors. For example, you often omit necessary articles (e.g., 'If company provide' should be 'If the company provides') and have issues with verb tense and agreement (e.g., 'Once the course will finish' should be 'Once the course finishes'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and the use of articles.
