Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manager,
I am writing to express my keen interest in a training course that I have seen in an advertisement and this
will be valuable for my job.
Yesterday, I was watching an advertisement on television which was about business ideas, plans and
business strategy. However, It is very demanding course for this job because I could learn many useful skills by taking this training.
I would be delighted if you could give me part- time jobs because I can give some times for this training.
After training, I would be able to take full contribution to this organization and handle to various meetings with the help of my communication skills, ideas and thoughts which I gain from this training. I would be grateful if you could give me this opportunity . I look forward to hear from you.
Yours sincerely,
Jaspreet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the development is limited. You describe the course vaguely as being about 'business ideas and strategy' and the request for 'part-time jobs' is unclear in the context of a training course. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task completion. To improve, you should expand on the specific benefits of the course and provide more professional detail regarding how the company can support your attendance (e.g., requesting study leave or financial sponsorship).
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a basic structure, but the flow between ideas is somewhat mechanical. You use simple transitions like 'However' and 'After training', but the connection between the advertisement and your request for time off is abrupt. Paragraphing is present, but the paragraphs are quite short and lack internal development. To improve, use a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition to this') to link your sentences more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for basic communication but lacks the professional tone required for a formal business letter. Phrases like 'give me part-time jobs' are imprecise and do not accurately convey the request for flexible working hours or study leave. There is also some repetition of the word 'training'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise business terminology and collocations, such as 'professional development', 'flexible working arrangements', or 'enhance my skill set'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors. For example, 'It is very demanding course' (missing article), 'give some times' (incorrect pluralization), and 'handle to various meetings' (incorrect preposition). Additionally, the phrase 'I look forward to hear from you' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'I look forward to hearing from you'. While your meaning is generally clear, these errors are frequent enough to distract the reader.
