Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. The purpose of writing this letter is that I have seen an advertisement about a course which could be meaningful for our company as it is related to the sales and marketing. Therefore, I am planning to join because I believe it not only help me to improve my skill but also help in growth of our firm.

Firstly, I have done with colleting details about this. Any business needs proper knowledge regarding sales, and this training session helps us to improve our marketing strategy. As an international business, we should maintain relations with society.

Furthermore, I request you to provide some days off to complete this training. This will take only 6 business days. I already sent a leave request on portal. Kindly approve it so I can enhance my skill in managing marketing weather it is in person or digital.

Thank you and I am looking forward for your response.

Yours faithfully,

Sachin

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: it describes the course, explains the need for time off, and highlights the benefits to the company. However, the development of these points is somewhat thin. For instance, the description of the course is vague, referring only to 'sales and marketing' without specific details about the curriculum or provider. The explanation of how the company can help is also brief. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete details about the course content and a more persuasive justification for how these specific skills will translate into improved performance for your firm.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother, rather than relying on simple list-like connectors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'marketing strategy' and 'international business'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'done with colleting' (should be 'finished collecting') and 'managing marketing weather' (likely a typo for 'whether'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'it not only help me' (should be 'helps'), 'I already sent' (should be 'I have already sent'), and 'looking forward for' (should be 'looking forward to'). These errors are frequent but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and verb tenses, particularly when discussing past actions or future intentions.
