Student answer (Band 7.0)
Respected Sir/Madam,
I hope You will be not bothered. I want to be enrolled in training course which was advertised on reception desk hence I want your guidance regarding it.
To begin with, being a software developer I am best at my programming skills. However, I am looking forward to enhance the cognizance in designing too. Therefore, I would like to be participated of this Graphic Design course.
So my kindly request to approve 15 days of paid vacation as the course will be held for just fortnight. Apart from this, if I would be referred by director of company aids me to secure my seat as they have limited vacancy.
It will benefit our organisation too. Since the designing of presentation for formal meeting has became headache I can contribute to mitigate this issue in well manner after attending this professional tutorial of Graphic Design.
I hope it will be fruitful to me and company. Thus, I will be granted to obtain green signal.
Yours Sincerely,
Binay.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the graphic design course, explain how the company can assist (paid leave and a referral), and outline the professional benefits. However, the tone is occasionally inconsistent; phrases like 'I hope you will be not bothered' and 'has became headache' are slightly informal or unnatural for a formal business request. While the ideas are relevant, they could be developed with more professional precision to fully meet the expectations of a formal letter to a manager. The purpose is clear, and the reader understands exactly what you are requesting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Apart from this', and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'Thus, I will be granted to obtain green signal', which makes the progression feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used, but the transition between the request for leave and the request for a referral could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, but the use of cohesive devices lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cognizance', 'mitigate', and 'organisation'. However, there are several instances of unnatural word choice and collocation errors, such as 'I would like to be participated of this course' (should be 'participate in'), 'has became headache' (should be 'has become a headache'), and 'obtain green signal' (an idiom that is not appropriate in this formal context). While the meaning is generally clear, these inaccuracies limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range of professional collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I hope You will be not bothered' (word order), 'I would like to be participated' (passive voice error), and 'if I would be referred... aids me' (conditional tense error). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels slightly strained. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your request, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the letter.
