Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to bring your attention to a training course which I intend to join and will be helpful for our company.
I saw an advertisement for the classes of articulation training on a well-known platform. It seems interesting to me because if I attend this course for a month then I will be able to enhance my communication skills along with pronunciation of words.
I would be grateful to you if you can assist me in paying 50% of this course fees. As this will not put me under financial stress. Moreover, the classes are online every evening for an hour this means it will not affect my work schedule.
In addition, by attending this training I can become a professional asset for our organization. Being an executive manager, I have to deliver several presentations to our business partners as well as to our investors. By mastering language skills, I will be effectively able to present as the face of our company and attract more customers.
I hope you take this into consideration. I look forward to your prompt response.
Yours sincerely,
Deep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the articulation training course, explain the request for 50% financial assistance, and articulate the professional benefits for your role as an executive manager. The tone is appropriately formal for a letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, providing a clear justification for why the company should invest in your training. The letter follows the required structure and maintains a consistent, professional purpose throughout, meeting all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'By mastering' to link ideas effectively. The progression of information is smooth, moving from the course description to the request for support and finally to the benefits for the company. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall clarity of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a professional context, such as 'articulation training', 'professional asset', and 'business partners'. While the vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate, there are minor opportunities to use more sophisticated collocations. For instance, instead of 'join a course', 'enroll in a course' would be more precise. The word choice is consistently clear and supports the professional tone of the letter without any significant errors that impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally accurate. There are minor slips, such as 'this course fees' (should be 'this course's fees' or 'the course fees') and 'effectively able to present as the face' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). However, these errors are infrequent and do not interfere with the reader's understanding. Your control over punctuation and sentence construction is strong, reflecting a good command of English grammar.
