Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to formally inform you that i am interested in enrolling myself in a training course for which i saw advertisement the other day. The course is named as "Medial Billing Coding Guidelines". This course covers all the fundamental guidelines that a Medical Biller should know about medial coding. This involves the appropraite ICDs and CPTs combination and the reasons for bundling denials.
I would really appreciate it if you can raise a request to company to fund my course, as it would be really benefical for the company. I would also like the company to refer me for this course as there are limited slots available and this would increase my chances of getting selected.
I believe this course would polish my expertise, and would be helpful for my job. It would help us reduce the errors in claim submission and fix the coding errors more efficiently.
I would be really thankful if company would cooperate in this. I will be looking forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Mahroosha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the course, explained how the company could assist with funding and registration, and clearly articulated the professional benefits of the training. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail regarding the specific duration or schedule of the course to show a more thorough development of ideas. However, the response is fully relevant and meets all task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs covering the required points, and a professional closing. Ideas are sequenced well, and the progression of the argument is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'as it would be' and 'I would also like', which help link your ideas. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition to this') to make the transitions between sentences feel less mechanical and more fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using industry-specific terms like 'Medical Billing', 'ICDs', 'CPTs', and 'claim submission'. This shows you can communicate effectively in a professional context. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'medial' instead of 'medical' and 'appropraite' instead of 'appropriate'. While these do not impede communication, correcting these slips and incorporating more sophisticated collocations would help you achieve a higher score. Your word choice is generally accurate and fits the formal tone required.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as the failure to capitalize the personal pronoun 'i' and the omission of articles (e.g., 'raise a request to company' should be 'raise a request to the company'). Additionally, 'The course is named as' is slightly unnatural; 'The course is titled' or 'The course is called' would be better. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding.
