Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to request your assitance to enroll in a course that could be significantly benefitial for our company and as well as for myself.

Firstly, the name of the course is Electric Vehicle(EV) Diagnosis. As our comapny is really trying to get into electric vehicles, it is essential for us to get updated with the program. Moreover, this could potentially help us to slove EV problems more practically and effectively.

Furthermore, I request you to provide me a paid one weeks off to complete the course, which is scheduled on the 1st week of September. I would appreciate it if you could cover the course fee, which is $800.

Lastly, after sucessfully completing the course, I would be able to solve hard problems in EVs and to teach the course to our staff members.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your prompt response.

Yours Faithfuly,

Smit Surti

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, explaining the company's role in supporting you, and detailing the benefits for your job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention the course name and the need to update skills, adding a bit more detail about the specific modules or the reputation of the training provider would have strengthened your argument. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a formal closing. You have used transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through your points. While these are effective, the use of 'Lastly' at the start of the final paragraph is slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The flow of information is smooth, and the relationship between the request for time off and the benefit to the company is clearly established.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'significantly beneficial', 'essential', and 'consideration'. However, there are several spelling errors, including 'assitance' (assistance), 'benefitial' (beneficial), 'comapny' (company), 'slove' (solve), 'sucessfully' (successfully), and 'Faithfuly' (Faithfully). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to incorporate more precise professional collocations related to training and business development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I would appreciate it if you could cover the course fee'. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'provide me a paid one weeks off' (should be 'a week of paid leave' or 'a week off') and 'as well as for myself' (the 'as' is redundant). Punctuation is generally handled well, though the spacing around parentheses in 'Vehicle(EV)' should be corrected. Despite these minor errors, your meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding.
