Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: describing the course, explaining the company's role, and stating the benefits. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the course as 'modern use of computer for correspondence' is vague and lacks specific detail. While the purpose is clear, the tone is slightly inconsistent for a formal business letter, particularly with phrases like 'I wish the authorities will give me'. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete details about the course content and use a more professional, persuasive tone when requesting support from your manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the request and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To start with' and 'often time'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. While the overall structure is coherent, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more explicit to guide the reader smoothly through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication expected at higher levels. There are several instances of awkward word choices or non-standard collocations, such as 'modern use of computer', 'positve synergy', and 'unserious for businesses'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'intending' instead of 'intended'. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the lack of natural business-appropriate collocations prevents the response from achieving a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('gadgets, usually malfunctions'), incorrect use of articles ('a training'), and punctuation errors ('it's significant' instead of 'its significance'). There are also awkward phrasings like 'I plead the I be funded'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb forms, possessive pronouns, and article usage.
