Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to mention a training course that I came across by an advertisement this morning.
As soon as I saw the advert about health and safety training course I immediately drawn towards it. This course train people about various steps which are to be taken by them in order to maintain safety and many precautions which are essential for everyone's health.
It would be really helpful if more information is provided about the timings and the length of the course as those details were not mentioned in the advertisement. I would also appreciate if company could provide this course without any additional cost.
This training course is not only useful for company but it could also help me in my job because of the information I would be having after completion. I would be able to complete my job responsibilities more efficiently as me along with my colleagues would feel more safe and confident.
I am looking forward hearing back from you.
Yours faithfully,
Dharmveer Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the course, explaining the company's role, and detailing the benefits. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the course is quite vague, stating only that it covers 'various steps' and 'precautions' without specifying the actual content or title of the training. To improve, you should provide more concrete details about the course content and explain more specifically how the company could assist, such as by granting paid leave or covering registration fees, rather than just asking for information and cost coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the prompt. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the introduction to the request and finally the justification. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. Phrases like 'As soon as I saw' and 'This training course is not only' are used correctly, but the transitions between sentences could be more varied to improve the flow. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the letter follows a standard formal structure, which helps the reader follow the argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'advertisement', 'responsibilities', and 'efficiently'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'came across by an advertisement' (should be 'in an advertisement') and 'I immediately drawn towards it' (should be 'I was immediately drawn'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on basic phrasing. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise professional terminology related to workplace training and development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For instance, 'This course train people' should be 'This course trains people', and 'me along with my colleagues would feel more safe' should be 'my colleagues and I would feel safer'. Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'the company' (missing 'the' in 'if company could'). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
