Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I want to enroll in a 4 week 'Enhanced Artificial Intelligence' course.

The above-mentioned training course is an online course, which will upgrade my skills with the best artificial intelligence tools in the market. Also, I will share my notes and expertise with my team members for the overall growth of my team. Moreover, the course being online, it will not clash with my work schedule.

The total cost of the course will be $399. I would request you to pay 50% of the cost of the course, and rest would be on me. Also, I will buy the additional study materials and tools, without relying on any additional funds from the company.

The course-structure is designed to boost my existing web developing skills, and provide me detailed explanation on AI advanced tools. Consequently I can make a use of the both in my daily operations to increase my productivity.

I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

Yours faithfully,

Abhinav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the 'Enhanced Artificial Intelligence' course, explain the request for 50% funding, and outline the benefits for your web development role. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific detail on how the course content directly relates to your current projects, rather than using general phrases like 'increase my productivity'. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'Moreover', and 'Consequently' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. For instance, starting two consecutive sentences with 'Also' in the second paragraph creates a repetitive flow. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that paragraph breaks clearly separate the distinct points (course description, funding request, and benefits) would enhance the overall flow and progression of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enroll', 'expertise', and 'operations' correctly. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'make a use of the both', which is grammatically awkward. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher bands. Incorporating more precise professional terminology related to your field or using more varied collocations would help elevate your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear, though there are some minor errors, such as 'the course being online, it will not clash' (a dangling modifier) and 'make a use of the both' (incorrect article usage). Punctuation is generally accurate, though the comma usage before 'and' in compound sentences could be more consistent. The errors present do not impede communication, but they prevent the writing from being considered error-free.
