Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam

I hope that this letter finds you well. I am writing regading the online course that i saw on advertisement. I think that this couse will help me in improving my performance in the company.

The couse that i am planning to do is how to use AI. In this course, the instructor teaches important methods and techniques to use AI in business especially in increasing sales.

The company can help me by giving some day off from my job and by paying the fees of this course. This is 10 day course and i have to spend 12 hours each day to complete this course. Also, its fee is bit high and i cannot afford that. Therefore, the company should give me holidays and provide me financial assistance.

As I am working in Finance department that employs a lot of employees and a lot of time is consumed in doing the Journal and ledger. If i get trained in using AI then it will do these financial transactions in very short time and there is less need of individuals in doing company finances. Therefore, the company can save more because less people are working and make more profits.

yours faithfully,

Komal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You described the AI training course, explained the support needed from your manager (time off and financial assistance), and clearly articulated how the skills gained would benefit your role in the finance department. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. However, the tone is slightly informal for a professional letter to a manager, and some explanations, such as the suggestion that the company would need fewer employees, could be phrased more diplomatically to sound more professional. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the introduction to the course details, the request for support, and finally the justification. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Therefore' and 'Also' to link your ideas. However, the use of transitions is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to avoid repetitive sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'financial assistance', 'transactions', and 'performance'. However, there are several spelling errors ('regading', 'couse') and some word choice issues, such as 'giving some day off' instead of 'granting time off' or 'a bit high' which is too informal. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise professional terminology and ensure consistent accuracy in spelling and collocation. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the online course', 'the Journal and ledger'), subject-verb agreement, and capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, such as the missing comma after the salutation. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence-level mechanics will significantly improve your writing.
