Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I am writing to express my interest in taking public speaking training that will improve my communication skills which is also significant requirement of my current position i.e Compliance lead. As, everyday i deal with numerous fellow colleagues either giving them training or providing information about recent changes in the company.

Firstly, I would greatly appreciate if you provide five days paid leave for my training because i can give hundred percent time without stressing about work that can keep me more focused on learning more. Moreover, fee seems quite expensive since most of the trainers will be internationally renowned speakers, if you can support financially would be great help for me.

Furthermore, being a compliance lead where i have to pass each and every information about company to all employees as sometime making them understand become the great deal. I know this training will make me more confident in my job example talking to mass which directly improve my work efficiency.

At Last, I hope you take this training into considerations and hoping to get back from you soon.

Sincerely Yours,

Jenisha Shrestha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the course, explaining the requested company support, and detailing the benefits to your role. Your position is clear throughout, and the tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the course will help with 'talking to mass', this could be expanded with more specific examples of how it would improve your daily compliance tasks. The response is functional and meets the requirements of the task effectively, though it lacks the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and minor punctuation errors, such as the lack of a comma after 'As' in the first paragraph. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that your sentences flow more naturally into one another to create a more cohesive narrative.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'compliance lead', 'internationally renowned', and 'work efficiency'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'pass each and every information' (should be 'convey all information') and 'making them understand become the great deal' (should be 'can be challenging'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive or slightly informal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with article usage (e.g., 'the company', 'the great deal'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence fragments. For instance, 'As, everyday i deal with...' contains a punctuation error and a capitalization issue. While your meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent capitalization would significantly improve your score.
