Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my interest in training for an AutoCAD designing course.
I have recently seen an advertisement regarding a designing software course and I realized that our company require this skill from a long time. This Autocad software tutor is award winning professor, who won numerous awards in his professional career. I have read about his proficiency, and because of that I would like to enroll in his training session. His guidance and knowledge will help both employees and employers grow.
I would like to ask help from the company if they can arrange at least one week session for various employees and install a software in each company devices. In my opinion, one day is more than enough to acquire knowledge about Autocad software, and after that workers can practice on their desk.
As you know, our company are paying a huge amount of money to create various drawing outside. After getting training, our employees can create drawings in our premises, which will help a company to make extra profit in the future.
Hoping for a prompt action from you regarding this matter!
Yours Faithfully,
Utsav Barot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the course, requesting company support, and explaining the benefits. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, there is a slight contradiction in the proposal; you suggest a one-week session but then state that 'one day is more than enough'. This inconsistency weakens the clarity of your request. To improve, ensure your ideas are consistent and fully developed. You have successfully covered the requirements of the task, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As you know' and 'In my opinion', to link ideas. However, the transition between the description of the course and the request for company support could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the logical flow between sentences is more seamless.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'proficiency', 'enroll', and 'premises'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'our company require this skill from a long time' (should be 'has required this skill for a long time') and 'install a software' (should be 'install the software'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over vocabulary. Expanding your use of professional collocations would help elevate your writing to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('our company are paying' should be 'our company is paying') and article usage ('a software' instead of 'the software'). Additionally, 'Autocad software tutor is award winning professor' lacks necessary articles. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these are frequent issues in your writing.
