Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I write this letter as regard to the advertisement for an additional training course which will be useful for my work.
This training is about an e-prescription. I believe it will enhance my skills and also bring the company to a limelight. The e-prescription will help in easy and fast drug dispensing, inventory, and proper documentation of patients including their medication history.
That being said, I hope this prestigious establishment would consider helping with the transportation fare for the training. I would like the company to give some days off outside my work routine to enable me attend the event.
In my opinion, I am sure the training will be relevant for my current job. It will give me the opportunity to train other staffs. boost my CV, and increase my self confidence.
I look forward for a positive response. Thank you for your help and support.
Yours Sincerely,
Rosemary Adibe

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the e-prescription course, explain the company's role in providing financial and time-off support, and outline the benefits to your job performance. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention the course will help with 'inventory' and 'documentation', expanding slightly on how these specific tasks currently hinder your productivity would have provided a more compelling argument. Overall, the task is fully addressed, though the depth of the explanation could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'That being said' and 'In my opinion', to transition between ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'I write this letter as regard to', which is not a standard idiomatic phrase. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they flow more naturally would enhance the overall coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prestigious establishment', 'inventory', and 'medication history'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'bring the company to a limelight' (the correct idiom is 'bring the company into the limelight') and 'I look forward for' (the correct preposition is 'to'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over idiomatic expressions and prepositional usage to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I write this letter as regard to' (should be 'regarding'), 'enable me attend' (should be 'enable me to attend'), and 'train other staffs' ('staff' is an uncountable noun). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of infinitives after certain verbs, and the pluralization of collective nouns.
