Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Maithili mam,

Hope this letter finds you in a radiant health and the best of spirit. My name is Dr Kinjal Patel, working as an assistant professor in your company. I would like to inform you that, recently, I have seen an advertisement for a training course which will be useful for my personal as well as professional development.

I want to resume the training course in which they have mentioned the details regarding venue, date, day and the topic of training. To add to this, course will be including theory and practical aspects of breathing devices, which is useful for ICU patients. After finishing this course, I will be delivering knowledge to our remaining employees and students. For enrolling myself in this course, I would require 4-day leaves with my schedule adjustment with another colleague. If someone take a charge, then I will be grateful.

As I mentioned, the course is regarding Management of critical patients. It will be useful for our company because we run medical collages in our campus.

Hope you consider my points and allow me to continue my course.

Yours faithfully

Dr. Kinjal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the course, explaining the company's role, and stating the benefits. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. The description of the course is vague, and the request for leave is phrased in a slightly informal and unclear manner ('If someone take a charge'). While the purpose is clear, the tone is inconsistent, shifting between overly formal and slightly unprofessional. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about the course content and ensure the request for support is articulated with greater professional clarity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To add to this' and 'As I mentioned'. The transition between the request for leave and the explanation of the course benefits is a bit abrupt. While the overall structure is coherent, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is more precise throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'professional development' and 'practical aspects'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'radiant health', 'resume the training course' (when you likely meant 'attend' or 'enroll in'), and 'medical collages' (spelling error for 'colleges'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations used in professional correspondence and proofreading for basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'in a radiant health', 'course will be including', 'delivering knowledge to our remaining employees', and 'If someone take a charge'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your request. To achieve a higher band, you need to improve your control over articles, verb tenses, and subject-verb agreement, and aim for more error-free sentences in your writing.
