Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear manager,

I am writing this letter to request a training course in order to improve my skills and knowledge. I recently saw an advertisement and would like to explain the situation.

Firstly, my job is to provide updated information to the farmers in rural areas about new farming techniques and equipment. In order to this, the training course provide us the worldwide methods of agriculture, and has a modified mobile application which contains all the information from seeding to harvesting of crops.

I would appreciate it if company will funded this training and provide the access to the application.

I believe this training course will help me in many ways. For instance, it will become easier to find out the right crop for a particular weather and soil. Moreover, with the help of online application we can communicate with the farmers living outside our zone, this will increase our area range.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Sukhman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, explaining the company's role, and detailing the benefits. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, you mention the course provides 'worldwide methods of agriculture' but do not elaborate on what these are or why they are relevant to your specific company. To improve, try to provide more concrete details about the course content and how the company's support (funding and access) will specifically facilitate your professional growth. The letter is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the details of the course and finally the benefits. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'For instance', and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is a bit thin; the second paragraph is quite long and contains several distinct ideas that could be better separated for readability. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of cohesive devices would help elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advertisement', 'agriculture', and 'consideration'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'provide us the worldwide methods' (should be 'provide us with') and 'will funded' (should be 'will fund'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that verbs and prepositions are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'In order to this' should be 'In order to do this', and 'the training course provide us' should be 'the training course provides us' (subject-verb agreement). There is also an error in 'provide the access to the application' (the article 'the' is unnecessary here). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage.
