Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mr Kapoor,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my interest in joining new training course soon, which would be beneficial for my job.

I want to do advanced IT system course as a part-time within a short time. As it will access me to gain knowledge regarding latest technologies and softwares, which we can use for keeping records of our clients and valuable techniques to reduce the burden of our employees. Moreover, these course will provide me in-depth information about various websites or applications for booking appointments, sharing details about ongoing projects with colleagues and boss at same time.

It would be appreciated if you could reduce my working hours and makes me free on weekends in order to focus on a part-time course. As my office time schedule is 9 AM to 5 PM, from Monday to Friday, so could you decrease two hours for my convenience to attend classes on time at 4 PM.

Advanced IT system course will significantly enhance the productivity of our workers and foster them to work effectively with the use of latest technologies. It will also facilitate us to save the data of our visitors quickly without any complex procedure. Overall, it will improve our company's professional image in the business market.

I hope you consider my request and allows me to join these course soon and reduce my professional responsibilities. I look forward to your positive response in this matter.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the course, explaining the company's role, and detailing the benefits. Your ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these points is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the benefits of the course. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is distinct and fully explored without restating the same general advantages. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose of the communication is clear from the start.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In order to', and 'Overall' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'these course' (plural demonstrative with singular noun). Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different requirements of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. The progression of ideas is generally smooth throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'in-depth information', 'significantly enhance', and 'professional responsibilities'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'access me to gain' (should be 'enable me to gain') and 'foster them to work' (should be 'encourage them to work'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and word forms to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'It would be appreciated if you could reduce my working hours'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'these course' instead of 'this course' and 'allows me' instead of 'allow me'. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely cause confusion or impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage.
