Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in joining the training course which was recently published on company's website and to request your assistance in making necessary arrangements.
This is a three-months training course based on learning various antimicrobial coatings including hands-on experience on different analytical techniques including high frequency 3D microscopes with AI. Although training will be held in another country, I would be virtually available to assist in any matters that require urgent attention.
The application and training fee is quite expensive and I am unable to afford it. I would be grateful if company could assist in sorting the financial requirements and hire a employee who could work in my absence to avoid any disruption to the team's progress.
The course will not just help me to develop professionally but also to work at managing positions in future. After three months, I would be trained on several different techniques, and this could help not just me but also the company to grow along side with other companies.
Thank you for your understanding and considering my request. I look forward to your response.
Your faithfully,
Ashu Berwal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the course, explained the company's role in providing financial and staffing support, and articulated the professional benefits. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanation of how the company can help is more specific; for example, you could mention a specific budget or a transition plan for your workload. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the request, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition', though the flow could be improved with more varied transition words. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the purpose of your communication well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary relevant to the professional context, such as 'antimicrobial coatings', 'analytical techniques', and 'professional development'. There are some minor issues with word choice and articles, such as 'hire a employee' (should be 'an employee') and 'company could assist' (should be 'the company'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from being considered highly flexible or precise. Expanding your use of collocations would further enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional 'I would be grateful if...' and the concessive 'Although training will be held...'. While the majority of your sentences are clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'three-months training course' (should be 'three-month') and 'along side' (should be 'alongside'). Punctuation is generally accurate, but ensure you check for small errors like missing articles. The grammar is sufficient to convey your meaning without difficulty.
