Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing to formally request your assistance with multilinguistic training course, which was recently advertised.
I would like to explain you about the course. Multilinguistic training certification is one of the mandatory requirements of multinational company. Although, I have completed this course during my training years, I still want to take to upgrade my knowledge and improve my skills. It is only for five days.
I would also appreciate your favor if you could allow me to avail this opportunity to strengthen my skills. I would request you to accept my study leave for five days. I assured you that of the replacement of my duties will be covered by my colleagues.
Additionally, our company is working at international level, and it would be beneficial for us to have a person who is multi-linguistic. It would leave a positive influence on the reputation of our company and expands our business globally.
I would be grateful if you could approve my leave.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, explaining how the company can help, and detailing the benefits for your job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the course is 'multilinguistic,' you do not specify the language or the nature of the training, which makes the request feel slightly generic. To reach a higher band, ensure that your descriptions are more specific and provide more depth regarding how the company's support (beyond just leave) might facilitate your professional development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph addressing a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Although,' 'Additionally,' and 'I would also appreciate.' However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined. The transition between the second and third paragraphs is clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother. Ensure that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more naturally rather than relying on simple sentence starters.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'formally request,' 'mandatory requirements,' and 'consideration.' There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'explain you about the course' (should be 'explain the course to you') and 'avail this opportunity' (which is slightly formal but acceptable). The term 'multilinguistic' is used repeatedly; using synonyms or more precise phrasing would demonstrate a stronger command of the language. Overall, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly without significant errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'I assured you that of the replacement of my duties' is grammatically incorrect, and 'expands our business' should be 'expand' to maintain parallel structure with 'leave a positive influence.' There are also minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'at international level' (should be 'at an international level'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading of basic sentence construction.
