Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Madam,
I hope you are doing well. Thank you for approving my two-week break.
I am writing to ask for your assistance and important for the company's upcoming projects. Last Friday I saw an advertisement regarding artificial intelligence. It is a three-week online course and I am very interested to learn about it and as you know how AI is playing a crucial role in our software and technology.
Moreover, I called them for more information about this course and I was surprised to learn that if I use the company credit card for fees I can get up to 60% discount. So, if company provides me card information that will be helpful for me.
Once I complete the course, It will provide several benefits like saving time, make our project's graphics more clear and easy to understand for clients and also I can share few tips and tricks to my colleagues which will create smooth and better project delivery. If you think this would benefit the company please send me card front and back photos on this email. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Aryan Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the course, explaining the company's role, and detailing the benefits. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the course is about 'artificial intelligence,' you do not provide specific details about the curriculum or why this specific course is superior. Additionally, the request for the manager to send 'card front and back photos' is unprofessional and unrealistic in a corporate context, which slightly impacts the effectiveness of your communication.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Once I complete the course' to link ideas. However, the transition between the opening and the main body is a bit abrupt. The paragraphing is clear, but the flow could be improved with more varied linking words to connect sentences within paragraphs more fluidly. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the request for the credit card and the subsequent instruction is slightly mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'assistance,' 'crucial role,' and 'delivery.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'make our project's graphics more clear' (should be 'clearer') and 'share few tips' (should be 'a few tips'). You rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'the course' and 'the company.' To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise professional collocations and avoid basic phrasing like 'I am very interested to learn about it.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'if company provides me card information' (missing articles: 'the company,' 'the card') and 'It will provide several benefits like saving time, make our project's graphics more clear' (parallelism error: 'making'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but ensure you are consistent with article usage and verb forms.
