Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Hope you are doing well. Recently, I came across an advertisment for a training course which will be useful in the job I am doing.
ABC Company are giving training to working professionals about marketing. They will teach practically about marketing and how it works. There is a fees to enroll in training course, it is 15000$ for 2 weeks, 1 week will be online theory based training and other week there will be practical training. I would need your help to pay the training course fees and also compensate tickect for a travel to mexico as our company have that option so I want to use that.
This course will give me hands on training in marketing as there will be companies coming to showcase their products and we also need to make a product and try to sell and market them. After completing this training I will be able to help our company to grow globally.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Hena

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly describe the marketing course, explain the financial and logistical support required, and justify the course's utility for your professional growth. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of how the company can help is a bit abrupt, and the description of the course content could be more detailed to sound more professional. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended and that the business context is presented with more formal precision.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the request and the final justification. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. For example, the transition between the course description and the request for funding could be smoother. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'There is a fees to enroll in training course, it is 15000$'. Using more varied linking words and ensuring better sentence-to-sentence flow would improve the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'professionals', 'compensate', and 'globally'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling that slightly hinder the professional tone, such as 'advertisment' (advertisement), 'tickect' (ticket), and the phrasing 'there is a fees'. The use of '15000$' is also non-standard; in formal writing, the currency symbol should precede the number (e.g., $15,000). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a fees', 'a travel') and subject-verb agreement ('ABC Company are', 'there will be practical training'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are run-on or comma-spliced, such as 'There is a fees to enroll in training course, it is 15000$'. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed without errors.
