Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the 'Cross-Cultural Communication and leadership' course, explained the need for financial support and schedule adjustments, and clearly articulated the benefits for your professional role. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, while you mention that the course will help with 'decision-making skills,' providing a brief, concrete example of how this would look in your daily work would strengthen the response further. Overall, the task is well-covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the specific request and finally the benefits. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'Apart from this,' and 'consequently.' However, the paragraphing is slightly disjointed, and some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The opening sentence is also slightly awkward due to the inclusion of quotation marks around the course title, which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'navigate,' 'professional norms,' and 'multifarious.' These choices show an attempt to use more sophisticated language. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'boosted innovation' (which should be 'boost innovation' to match the tense) and 'excellent clearer communication' (which is redundant). Additionally, there are minor errors in article usage, such as 'cover registration fee' (should be 'the registration fee'). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise business collocations will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text. For example, 'I just viewed an advertisement for training course' is missing an article ('a training course'). There are also issues with verb forms, such as 'as enhance my decision-making skills' (should be 'as it will enhance') and 'hope so will do better' (which is informal and grammatically incomplete). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring all sentences have a clear subject.
