Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this email to formally request permission to attend a training course workshop which I saw an advertisement of. I would like to register myself for “IT BUSINESS WORKSHOP” which is scheduled to be on September 03,2026 in Toronto. I believe attending this workshop will not only open a door to my future advancement, also, it will boost my confidence in all of my skills that I perform regularly.

One of the main reason in personally completing this workshop might assist me to be a team leader in every aspect of my role. As a senior employee in this company, I think this would be a greatest help for me and our company.

Thus, I would like to appeal to you if you could register me for this workshop, and give me a chance to represent our team. Additionally, if my registration fees could be paid by the company, I would greatly appreciate it. I assure you to be the best employee there and stood our team’s ground there.

Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Nikita Gajera

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the 'IT BUSINESS WORKSHOP', explain the company's role in registration and funding, and outline the benefits for your professional development. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For example, you mention the course will help you become a 'team leader' but do not specify which skills you hope to gain or how they apply to your current role. To reach a higher band, ensure your ideas are more fully extended with specific details rather than general statements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Thus', and 'One of the main reason', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing. For instance, the phrase 'One of the main reason in personally completing this workshop' is slightly awkward and impacts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'formally request', 'advancement', and 'represent our team'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'stood our team’s ground' is an incorrect idiom in this context, and 'greatest help' is slightly unnatural. You also have a minor error in 'One of the main reason' (should be plural 'reasons'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you need to work on more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions to achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I believe attending this workshop will not only open a door... also, it will boost my confidence'. However, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For instance, 'I assure you to be the best employee' is grammatically incorrect (should be 'I assure you that I will be...'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'advertisement of' (should be 'advertisement for'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score.
