Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to express my keen interest in the advertisement i came across online yesterday.

The adverstisement consists of various kinds of training courses. However, I am delighted to see that I could get an opportunity to learn the management skills. Since, I have been working in your company on a managerial position, it would be great to get some insightful knowledge and experience by enrolling in these sessions. It would be a win-win situation for both the organization and me as an effective employee if you could provide me some more details such as the process of enrolment, time schedule and documentation.

As far as I am concerned, being a part of this course will not only advantageous for the company but also significant as an entire team. This will contribute to get familiar with practical scenarios which will enhance life-long experiences and critical thinking.

I would appreciate it if you could look into this matter. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Manpreet kour

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the course as a management skills training, explained that you need the company to provide enrollment details and documentation, and stated how it would benefit the team and the organization. However, the description of the course is quite vague; you mention 'various kinds of training courses' but do not specify the name, duration, or provider of the course you wish to attend. To reach a higher band, ensure your ideas are more fully developed with specific details rather than general statements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Since', and 'As far as I am concerned' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. For instance, the transition between the advertisement mention and the request for details could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the reader can easily follow your intent throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'keen interest', 'insightful knowledge', and 'win-win situation'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'adverstisement' and the phrase 'contribute to get familiar with', which should be 'contribute to becoming familiar with'. While you attempt to use more sophisticated language, some collocations are slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to professional development and business contexts to enhance the professional tone of your correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing to express my keen interest in the advertisement i came across' (capitalization error) and 'Since, I have been working' (unnecessary comma). Additionally, 'it would be advantageous' is missing the verb 'be' in your sentence 'will not only advantageous'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct punctuation, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy.
